Are you feeling overwhelmed just knowing where to start?
Do you feel you cannot find the right space to explore the intense feelings you are experiencing with a professional that understands?
Are you experiencing flashbacks, vivid dreams, extreme anxiety or panic?

I see you

I hear you

You are not alone

I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS.

When my brother took his own life 6 years ago, it felt like all the pain he had been experiencing passed onto me. I felt alone, scared, shocked and like no-one could possibly understand what this was like.

I was a therapist at the time and used my own therapy and doctoral research to put my belief-system back together again and yes, although life will never, ever be the same again, I can live my life with grief and 'suicide' a part of who I am.

I PROMISE IT WON'T ALWAYS FEEL LIKE IT DOES NOW.

Time is an ingredient of healing but other ingredients include self-awareness, self-care, community and support from someone who has 'been there.'

As a Psychologist and EMDR Therapist, I offer specialist high quality, evidence-based psychological therapy to any adult or adolescent (16+) affected by suicide-loss.

If your loss happened recently or if you are experiencing any stages of extreme grief or trauma - whether that is avoidance, shock, flashbacks or overwhelming sadness - private therapy might be the best option for you.

My passion is to support individuals at any stage of their grief.  By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, I utilise an array of counselling and psychological approaches, such as:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR),
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
  • Suicide Grief Theory,
  • Psychodynamic Theory,
  • Grief Theory.

This allows me to create an environment where you are met exactly where you are and we can mindfully focus on you and what you need in order to start healing.

Everyone's past is unique, everyone's relationship with their loved one is unique and everyone's grief is unique. Individual therapy will offer you security to rebuild your life with suicide now a part of your life story.

No amount of words can describe how thankful I am for Sue. I don’t even remember how we found each other and I am so glad we did.

She knows my story and how difficult it was to find someone who can relate to my loss. She was gentle, and still is in helping me navigate this horrific journey.

I’m so eager to be healed like I have some kind of disease. I am slowly realising this is not going away. Sue will be here for me to guide me through for however long it will take.

I know she will be.

On EMDR after a suicide loss:

"Overall, whilst EMDR was certainly not a cure-all (I don’t think anything could be), and there’s still work to be done every day, I definitely think it has significantly helped to reduce how my body reacts to triggers.

In so doing has broken the cycle of escalation and overwhelm to allow me to remain in a state of mind/body that are capable of utilising healthy coping strategies until the stress/trigger has eased.

Once again Sue I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done for me."

Matt

"Sue has helped me to process my loss like no-one else could have done. She is calm, kind and brings so much understanding of suicide and the grief I have been experiencing.

She has helped me notice when guilt shows up and work through the triggers that show up.

Although I will never 'get over' this, Sue understands this and there is no expectations from her to 'get better' I have had from other therapists."

Beth

I'm so grateful to Sue for everything she's done for me. She's been there when no one else has. Sue has gone the extra mile and taken the time to really listen and understand, that was all I could have asked for. Thank you Sue 🙂

The Value of Private Therapy

  • An evolving psychological formulation of your past, present and future:
(A psychological formulation is a joint-interpretation between you and me about what may affect you from the past and considers the kind of person you want to be in the future and how to heal the past in order to get there).
  • A private space to share your inner thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental space.
  • Counselling, psychological and grief theories adapted and presented for you moment-by-moment.
  • Restore hope.
  • Develop new perspectives.
  • Directly heal trauma.
  • Good for the raw, early stages of grief.

Many factors can contribute to how we feel after a suicide loss. We focus on rebuilding your belief system, as we believe this is one of the most fundamental processes involved in recovering from a suicide loss. Of course, this is certainly NOT the only way to heal from grief. If you are stuck with how to process the death of a loved one to suicide, the first step is reaching out for professional help.  We hope some of what we offer here helps you recognise how important your healing journey is. Please see the resource page for free, helpful resources.
